Now Hiring Part Time Farm Crew / July 2021

Petaloom Floral Co is a small diversified cut flower farm that is sister owned, and operated by an all women team. Our focus is on european style cut flowers, grown using organic, low-till, regenerative methods. Our flowers are grown for farmers markets, bouquet subscriptions, custom arrangements and weddings in Makawao, Maui. We are a relatively new farm with just a few seasons under our belt. Last year 2020 marked our first year of full time farming and when we hired our first part time help! We are continually experimenting with new crops and honing in our existing systems of production and are so excited to bring on a couple new faces to help with growing the business. Our future goals involve a community farm stand, workshop space, teaching garden and agrotourism ventures. 

 

We are looking for someone(s) to join our farm crew starting in July for 15 to 20 hours per week. Work days are Monday, Wednesday and Friday and some Saturday mornings for farmers market. 

 

As a crew member you will work on varied tasks throughout the week and days. This includes working in the fields doing bed preparation, planting, cultivation, and harvesting. It also includes support in the greenhouse, seeding, potting up and watering seedlings as well as help with chicken care. As a farm crew member you will also assist in mixed bouquet assembly, sales and occasional help with on farm events.

 

Applicants must be able to tolerate being in the sun for long periods of time and be able to lift 30lbs or more. Work includes digging, raking, lifting, planting, composting, harvesting, processing, farmers market sales, seeding & other greenhouse work and bouquet assembly. Work is physically demanding.

 

Pay: $15.00 - $17.00 per hour

 

IDEAL APPLICANTS

 

  • Have farm experience, especially using hand tools

  • Experience with flowers is a plus

  • Great communication & problem solving skills

  • Positive, team oriented attitude.

  • Ability to work independently.

  • Excellent attention to detail with a focus on quality and care.

  • Ability to operate standard transmission vehicles, small equipment and tools, and tractors as needed.

  • Must be able to work in all types of weather, including heat and rain.

  • Must be able to list/pull/push up to 30 pounds on a regular basis.

  • Must be able to stand/walk for extended periods of time.

  • Ability to bend, kneel, stoop, reach overhead and twerk.

  • Ability to work effectively in an environment with exposure to dirt, dust, pollen, and animal hair/feathers.
